CAFOD Middlesbrough Just One World Pilgrimage Osmotherley to Whitby

CAFOD Middlesbrough’s Just One World Pilgrimage with the Northern Saints sets off from the Monastery Church of Our lady of Mount Grace, 18 North End, Osmotherley following the 10.30am Mass on Sunday 26 June 2011 and concludes at Whitby Abbey with Mass at 2.30pm in the abbey nave on Saturday 2 July. Come and join us!

The aim of the pilgrimage is to prepare for 2012 when we will be marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of CAFOD which took place on the eve of the Second Vatican Council in 1962. Since then CAFOD, through the generosity of the Catholic Community in England and wales has provided help and support to millions of people in developing countries.  2012 is a time for CAFOD to say thank you to all our supporters for their commitment and generosity.

We have five people, Maggie, Joan, Angie, Shirley and David who are planning to walk the whole route covering some 65 miles stopping off at Hutton Rudby, Stokesley, Middlesbrough Cathedral, Marske, Saltburn, Runswick and finally reaching Whitby on Saturday 2 July. If you wish to attend the Mass on 2 July you can obtain free entry to the Abbey if you are wearing a CAFOD badge.  These are available from CAFOD by telephoning 077861  71367. Badges will also be available from the pilgrims enroute.

CAFOD partner Simon Nsayabezi from Rwanda will be joinning us on Friday 1 July and will speak at Mass in Whitby Abbey the following day.

As they wind their way to Whitby our pilgrims will be asking people they encounter along the way to sign CAFOD’s Get Down to Business campaign action cards and to become MP Correspondents..

Come and join us either along the route, at Osmotherley or for our Mass at Middlesbrough Cathedral with Bp Terry at 9.00am on Wednesday 29 June or at Whitby Abbey. If you can’t do any of these, you can pray for and with us by ordering a free copy of our Pilgrimage booklet. or by emailing us for an e-copy which contains reflections on the lives of some of the many saints of our diocese.

The pilgrims will be joined enroute by others wishing to walk part of the way with them and  will be carrying a replica of St Cuthbert’s pectoral cros which will arrive in our diocese via Hallam and Leeds.  This will then be handed on to our friends from Hexham and Newcastle Diocese to wind its way to Holy Island for Saturday 9 July.

STOP PRESS:  There is a coach going from Hull to Holy Island to join our Annual Pilgrimage on Saturday 9 July and will happily pick people up in York and Middlesbrough. If you would like to go to Holy Island on 9 July then please telephone Teresa Ullyatt on 01482 845355 to book a place. We would love to see a full coach!

Please do come and joins us at one or all the events.  Bring your family and friends. For further information contact Carol on 077861  71367
