Day six: Saltburn to Runswick Bay

Today we celebrated the Feast of the Sacred Heart at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Saltburn. Afterwards Monsignor Morgan and Father Simon Broughton posed for a picture with the pilgrims in front of the grotto.  The sun had returned for our pilgrims and was shining brightly as they set out for Runswick Bay. On this penultimate day of the pilgrimage, our numbers were swelled to eight as the pilgrims were joined by Mike and Maria Morrissey and Jim Ling.  As they walk along today the pilgrims are reflecting on the life of St Aelred of Rievaulx and our theme for the day is Dignity. Our CAFOD partner is a recent Colombian visitor to Middlesbrough, Melida Esther Guevara, an Afro-Colombian mother, who is fighting to secure land rights for the Afro- Colombian communities at the cost of great personal risk. This evening we will welcome Simon Nsabiyeze from Rwanda who will stay with us until our pilgrimage ends in Whitby tomorrow.
