More than 30 CAFOD Middlesbrough supporters travelled to London last weekend to join in the celebration of CAFOD’s 50th Anniversary Mass. There were more than 2500 people gathered in Westminster Cathedral drawn from all areas of England and Wales and beyond. Archbishop of Westminster, Right Reverend Vincent Nicholls concelebrated the Mass with more than 20 bishops and numerous clergy. The proceedings started with a procession of images of people associated with CAFOD from Jacqueline Stuyt, on of the founding mothers of CAFOD, who was one of the four ladies who organised the very first Fast Day collection in 1960 followed by other people who have been helped by CAFOD over the years and ending with a young girl, who had recently been on an overseas visit with CAFOD – the face of the future. Bishop John Arnold, who has recently taken over as Chair of CAFOD gave a wonderful homily, looking back at CAFOD over the years and addressing some of the challenges we are facing today. It can be read in full here:
