What have St Aelred’s Primary School in York been up to in Lent?

At our school at the beginning of term we had an assembly where we learnt about how many people in the world don’t have clean water and what CAFOD are doing to help them during Lent. When we saw the numbers of how many children in the world don’t have clean water we were astonished because we take it for granted and thought everyone had enough.

These are the things we are going to do to help:

Foundation stage pupils are going to dress up like animals or have a book sale.

Y1 are starting a games club which will run every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime for a charge of 50p per entry.

Y2 have thought of making a big outline of a water droplet the size of a table and then they will fill it with silver coins.

Y3 are going to hold a Quiz Night after school for KS2 pupils!

Y4 are going to hold a toy sale.

Y5 had the idea of an Easter egg raffle with lots of Easter eggs bought with their own money.

Finally, in Y6 the pupils will be washing cars and making buns!

This is a quote from a girl in Year 6: “I think it’s a great idea. Seeing all those people without water just shows that we take our water for granted. Through our actions, we will be making a difference to many people’s lives.”
