Update from Into the Gap

Gappers and group leaders at office

It has been a whirlwind of new experiences since arriving in the beautiful country that is Sierra Leone. Our CAFOD colleagues in the Freetown office have taken great pains to ensure our well being and comfort.
For the last two days we have been privileged to experience the vast wealth of knowledge and experience and expertise from them. We have been informed of some of the historical context of the country both in the recent past and earlier. There has been much to listen to and learn from but the young people have been drinking it in and have been given a comprehensive introduction into CAFOD’s work here in Sierra Leone.
Today we heard from partners the National Movement for Justice and Development who are working with communities caught up in the extractives industry, helping them to acquire the skills and knowledge to be able to address the issues arising from it, to protect their own interests – it is just a beginning and the road ahead will be long and arduous but there is hope on the horizon.
Tomorrow we travel to our partner communities in Kenema and Makeni – where new experiences await us!
Keep us in your prayers as we keep you in ours.
