Thanks to our Cathedral J&P Group and St Augustine’s School Fred Uttley’s Cycle ride has been a great success. Fred, Mark and John are back home having completed the sponsored ride through all 22 dioceses’ in England and Wales. Up to now they have raised £3000 of which £745 was raised by parishioners at Middlesbrough Cathedral.
Well done to everyone concerned and many thanks for all your support.

World Youth Day At Home 26-29 July 2013
Will you help us to promote WYD@Home? The event is happening at Aylesford Priory in Kent, 26th-29th July, at which CAFOD partners from Colombia, Fredy and César, will be performing on stage, running two workshops (one in English and one in Spanish), and creating a huge graffiti wall. The whole weekend looks amazing and the line up is impressive.
This is an incredible opportunity for young adults in the diocese of Middlesbrough to participate in an inspiring weekend celebration of what it means to be a young Catholic today, to share faith stories and experiences with peers and others from all over the country, and to get to work directly with some of our amazing partners and gain an insight into the global dimension of the Church…an opportunity not to be missed!
Young people under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Additionally, if you know of any young adults who would like to volunteer with CAFOD for the weekend, we are looking for roughly another five people to help ensure smooth running of the workshops and help facilitate the graffiti wall. In return for their assistance CAFOD will cover the cost of their weekend ticket which includes a camping pitch (they will need their own tent, or be happy to share one with others in our group), and all food.

IF Campaign – a huge success
Thanks to all those who joined us in Hyde park for the IF Campaign mobilisation on Saturday 8 June and to all those who have taken CAFOD’s Hungry For Change campaign action. Over 40,000 people attended the rally. Your action really has made a difference. Persuading the Government to make tax and transparency a priority and forcing hundreds of major multinational companies to reveal the truth about the secret payments they make and the tax they avoid in the poorest countries, would never have happened without the pressure brought to bear by the IF Campaign.
Your action has also helped to secure the commitment from world leaders that they will spend an additional $4.1billion on tackling malnutrition that annually kills and stunts the futures of millions of children and potentially saving the lives of 2 million children each year!
Well done and thank you for your support
Syria Crisis Appeal
The civil war in Syria is having a devastating effect on the lives of millions of people.
On 15 March 2011, a small group of demonstrators in Damascus staged a protest against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad. Within days, the protests had spread, and some demonstrators had been shot by government forces. Since then, the conflict has escalated beyond recognition. Today, Syria is embroiled in an ongoing civil war, in which an estimated 80,000 people have been killed. More than five million people have been forced from their homes, including at least 1.5 million who have left the country to escape the fighting. 6.8 million people within Syria are in need of humanitarian aid. We have been working with local church partners in Syria since early 2012, ensuring that people affected by the crisis have food, relief supplies and safe places to stay. We are also supporting Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Turkey.
