26.2 miles, 42.165 km It really doesn’t seem far if you say it quickly enough. It’s a decent car journey, it’s a long bus ride it’s a good pedal on a bike, but for 5 CAFOD supporters it’s a Sunday challenge.
This Sunday, five CAFOD supporters will run the first ever Yorkshire Marathon, leaving from the York University buildings, passing the world famous Minster and out into the Yorkshire countryside. They’ll loop back past farms and small villages before finishing back at the University where they started.
A Team CAFOD runner might not win. With a couple of “handy” Kenyans it’ll be a tall order, John Mutai has a personal best of 2hrs 11 mins and Edwin Kiprop Korirt will be looking for a special present on his 25th birthday, so it’s an outside bet, but there will be winners from the team.
Mayling in Nicaragua who doesn’t get enough to eat, Francisco who is homeless in Brazil, Peter who lived on a dump in Kenya and Yong in Cambodia will all be winners. They and many, many more will benefit from the generosity shown by CAFOD supporters in sponsoring Team CAFOD.
We wish Rev. Paul Dowling, James Corr, Nick Gunson, Graham Trory and Andrew Charles the best of luck in the race and we’ll be there at 21 miles to cheer them into the (almost) home straight.
