The pack was up against Harpercollins and Oxford University Press, among other organisations. The Geographical Association Publishers’ Awards aim to recognise material which will make a significant contribution to geography in schools or colleges.
Download the award winning pack The pack is presented through the eyes of four children living in different areas of El Salvador. It uses stories, photographs and films to give an insight into the many geographical challenges faced by El Salvadoran communities, such as adapting to the changing climate, how they are learning to prepare for natural disasters and how they care for the environment.
One of the children featured in the pack, Karen, 10, from Guarjila, loves to grow plants. “Sometimes there is no water for three or four days in the dry season,” she said. “Plants are living beings and I feel really sad when I can’t give them any water and they die.”
It’s wonderful to know that children across England and Wales have been enjoying learning about the different ways CAFOD’s partners are working alongside communities in El Salvador, and that the resource is proving to be a valuable teaching aid.
