Children in every class at the Thornaby school from reception to Year 6 have drawn colourful pictures or written heartfelt messages sharing their concerns about the changing climate and protecting the things they love. The bunting will be taken to the Climate Coalition’s ‘for the love of’ lobby of parliament tomorrow, where it will be shown to Stockton South MP James Wharton.

Responding to a request from CAFOD Middlesbrough staff, teacher Mrs Carson sent a message around the school just last week, saying the bunting was needed quickly and the children set to the task with enthusiasm and have shown how much they care about the world we live in and their concerns for it. They speak of ‘working together to bring hope’ and ‘looking after family and friends’, trees and animals and very poignantly reminded us that ‘God said look after the world’.

Their messages are very timely ahead of the expected Papal encyclical from Pope Francis due out this week! Well done to everyone!

Meanwhile parishioner’s from St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in the town have signed a petition which will also be given to their MP – he should be in no doubt about the strength of people’s concerns!
