CAFOD, one of the UK’s leading international aid agencies, is currently looking for a Regional Communications Intern to be based at one of CAFOD’s five North East volunteer centres (Hexham & Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Hallam and Nottingham) and to cover its work across the North East region.
Job Profile CAFOD is seeking a Regional Communications Intern, which offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a professional profile in communications, journalism or PR.
The successful candidate will help increase the profile of the work of CAFOD in the above location, in regional print, broadcast and online media, in the Catholic press and through social media.
The post-holder will be based at a CAFOD volunteer centre near there, with some travel around the region. They will report to the local Community Participation Manager and the Head of UK News in the Communications Team. They will liaise with local CAFOD volunteers and supporters as well as staff from campaigns, fundraising and other relevant teams.
The post-holder will devise and implement a media and social media plan for the duration of the placement. They will source stories and write press releases which they will then pitch to the local media and promote through social media. They will organise photographs and filming where necessary, suggesting suitable photo and filming opportunities for the media. They will identify spokespeople from CAFOD staff and volunteers for radio interviews and source quotes from them for press releases. The post-holder will also help promote CAFOD related events. They will also help with establishing processes and systems to be used by CAFOD’s communications volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, preferably writing, journalism, media relations or public relations or be able to demonstrate the kind of confident personality and creative and organised approach that is necessary to deliver on targets and become a successful communicator. The candidate should have an interest in events, promotion and planning.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in International Development and an understanding of CAFOD’s vision, mission and values.
