Members of the Middlesbrough Diocese are invited to welcome Sister Yvonne Mwalula Mwila when she visits the area from Zambia next week.
Sister Yvonne is speaking at St Mary’s Cathedral in Middlesbrough on Thursday 16 February to share her experiences of CAFOD.
The evening starts at 7pm and is part of an England and Wales tour which Sister Yvonne is embarking on to speak of the incredible work of CAFOD and their partners in Zambia.
Sister Yvonne works alongside CAFOD in Zambia on a range of projects, including helping to set up a community school and providing support for disabled children.
Sister Yvonne travelled 7,500 miles to get to England from Zambia. She said: “As a young girl I always wanted to become a sister because I was inspired by the works that the sisters were doing in my home town.
“They opened my eyes to the greatest poverty, sicknesses – including during the highlight of the HIV pandemic – and just the great suffering that was very near to where I lived.
“Changing lives and providing small windows of opportunities for children with disabilities have been my greatest passion.”
